Rocklands High Student Shines on Global Stage

Jordan Tauro Represented Zimbabwe in Canberra Australia at International Debate and Public Speaking Championship 2024.

We are thrilled to share that Jordan Tauro, a dedicated and passionate student from Rocklands High School, represented Zimbabwe at the prestigious Debate and Public Speaking Championship held in Australia.

At just 18, Jordan proved that excellence, determination, and a powerful voice can take you across borders literally and figuratively.

Selected after a series of national qualifiers, Jordan stood out not just for her eloquence, but for her ability to connect ideas with empathy and insight. Competing against top young minds from around the world, she held her own with grace and confidence, leaving an indelible mark on the international stage.

Representing Zimbabwe was both an honour and a huge responsibility. I knew I was carrying the hopes of my school, my community, and my country,” Jordan shared.

Held in Canberra, Australia the Championship brought together bright students from over 16 countries. Over the course of several days, participants engaged in prepared speeches, impromptu rounds, interpretive reading, and intense debate sessions.

Jordan particularly excelled in Public Speaking, earning commendations from the international panel of judges.

Jordan’s journey wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of her teachers, coaches, classmates, and family. Rocklands High School has long nurtured talents in debate and public speaking, and Jordan’s success is a reflection of the school’s commitment to holistic education.

As Jordan returned home, she brought not just accolades but experience, new friendships, and a renewed sense of purpose. She plans to continue advocating for youth voices in Zimbabwe and mentoring upcoming speakers at Rocklands High School.
