Young Leader on the Rise: Rocklands High School Form 1 Learner Joins Junior Parliament

Diana Balaka Elected Councilor Representing the Women’s Quota

At just Form 1, Diana Balaka from Rocklands High School has made a bold and inspiring entrance into the world of leadership and advocacy. She has been officially elected as a Junior Parliamentarian, serving as a Councilor representing the Women’s Quota, a proud moment not only for her family but for the entire Rocklands High community.

🏛️ A Seat at the Table

The Junior Parliament of Zimbabwe is a national platform that empowers young people to actively participate in civic and leadership roles, giving them the opportunity to speak on issues that affect youth across the country. Representing the Women’s Quota, Diana will focus on voicing concerns specific to girls and young women particularly around education, health, safety, and equality.

“Being chosen as a Councilor gives me the chance to speak for many girls who feel unheard. I want to bring change and represent every girl with dreams just like mine,” she shared.

💡 Big Dreams, Early Start

While most learners are still adjusting to high school life, Diana is already standing tall as a voice for youth. Her confidence, sense of responsibility, and passion for equality have set her apart proving that leadership begins with vision, not age.

Teachers and classmates describe her as thoughtful, driven, and always ready to take initiative. Her campaign and nomination were fueled by genuine passion, not performance, a true mark of leadership.

💬 Advocacy in Action

As part of her role, Diana will be involved in:
• Speaking engagements and policy discussions focused on girls’ rights
• Community outreach programs to educate and empower other young girls
• Collaborating with other Junior Parliamentarians and stakeholders to influence positive change in schools and communities
• Representing her constituency during official Junior Parliament sessions

She also plans to launch a “Girl’s Voice Forum” at Rocklands High School, a platform where girls can discuss issues they face and work together to find solutions.

📣 Rocklands Stands Proud

“We are incredibly proud of Diana,” said Ms Pemba, Matron. “She is a shining example of what young people can achieve when they are encouraged, supported, and believed in. Her success reminds us why it’s important to invest in student leadership from the very beginning.”

✊ Her Message to Fellow Learners

“Leadership is not about being the loudest it’s about listening, caring, and standing up for what’s right. If you believe in something, don’t wait. Start acting now.”
